Suitable Blindfolds

A good blindfold should be effective, comfortable and should look good too.


Any cloth item that can be tied behind someones head could make a good blindfold. If you are a Girl Guide/Scout you could use the neckerchief from your uniform. What does make a suitable blindfold though? When trying to find a blindfold, you should consider how long will it be worn for, will it come loose easily and how comfortable is it? The best way you can test something, is to blindfold yourself and find out if it works. Be warned when tying a blindfold, you can inadvetainy catch the players hair in the knot, to avoid this start the first knot well away form the back of the player's head. Also the blindfold should be clean and free of anything that could get into the blindfolded person's eyes.

Some of the most common items to use for blindfolds are shown below. But you can be creative and use anything that is affective.

Sleep Masks

Sleep masks are fairly comfortable to wear. There are many variatiants. Some will make great blindfolds and others will not. If you are using it on someone who might peek, consider a scarf. Also, it might not fit them that well, even if you have tried it out on yourself. So have a second blindfold standing by just in case. If you have planned a birthday kidnapping, the last thing you want is a bad blindfold!

Wool Scarves

Wool scarves make good blindolds. They are generally thick enough to block out light and their length allows them to be easily tied behind a players head. Be warned some wool scarves are not very soft and can be uncomfortable. Further, some people might have skins sensitive to wool and might develop itches. Therefore, always better to ask whether such condition is there before using a wool scarf.

Bandanas

Bandanas can make good blindfolds if they are thick enough, sometimes they'll stop the wearing seeing but let in light. They need to be folded and tied properlly, but this can easily be done! Bandanas seem to the the most popular choice for a blindfold.

Headscarves

Headscarves make good blindfolds they are generally comfortable and when prepared properly don't allow in any light. Thick polyester headscarves are very comfortable but they slip loose easily. You could combine one of these with a wool scarf to make a comfortable long term blindfold.

Other Items

Anything that blocks out light well and confortable to wear can be a suitable blindfold. Kitchen towels, rolled up clothes, adhesive eye patches and bandages are to name a few. Let your imagination run and be creative. You will be surprised.
